Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist and I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Worcester MA. I’m here to help you make a decision if we are the right therapist for you, so I’m going to give you some information about what our approach is like, what you can expect during your sessions, and your first session especially, and also give you a little information about how to help pay for therapy.
First off, I want to let you know that everyone needs help from time to time in your life and it’s okay, it’s natural and normal to ask for help. We don’t always have the answers. And I think in our culture it can be very difficult for most of us to reach out and ask for help. Reaching out to a licensed professional can be a very smart decision. We have a lot of experience. We’ve worked with a lot of people on their life and relationship issues, so we bring that experience and that wisdom into our sessions. We also have a lot of skills and tools that not everyone has to help you create a roadmap to moving forward in your life in a really healthy way. We’re called solution-focused therapists, so eventually when it is the right time, we’re going to create those tools, work on them during session, and then support you taking those out into the world and creating the change that you want.
Now, when you come into your first session, most likely we’re going to ask you what’s going on. We want to hear your thoughts, and your feelings, and your opinion about your life issue and we’re going to ask a lot of questions. And I think it’s a very natural way to have a conversation with somebody. And I guess I want you to know that you can expect a very interactive exchange and it makes clients feel very comfortable. And when we get to know you better, we’re more able to help you and more effectively help you. What a lot of clients find out, though, is that by having this dialogue, they get to learn about themselves and sometimes clients have epiphanies and have a deeper level of clarity that they didn’t have before, and it can be very helpful.
We have a lot of articles and videos on our website, and I think that’s a great place to start. You can go and check some of those out. You might find a life issue that you’re currently experiencing and that could be very helpful, and you also could see the kinds of advice that we give.
I think the best thing to do, though, is to reach out and give us a call. We have friendly receptionists that could answer basic questions. And if you want to talk to the therapist in your area, you can just ask and we’ll direct you to that person. And you can talk to them on the phone with no commitment whatsoever. It’s a great way to get to know the person that you would be seeing, their personality. You can tell them a little bit about yourself and what you’re going through. And if you feel good about the person on the phone, then you can book and appointment as soon as possible.
Now, sometimes people want help paying for therapy. We are out-of-pocket providers, so you pay cash or check. But some people have what’s called out-of-network coverage. You can call your insurance provider to find out. And if you do, we can give you an invoice that might get you some money back. Sometimes people have an employee benefit, something like flex spending, and sometimes people use those monies to help pay for therapy.
