Hello. My name is Sevin. I’m a Licensed Therapist, and I’m the Founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Wilmington, NC. I’ve created this video to help you figure out if we are the right therapists for you. I know it’s a difficult project trying to find the right person for a very important issue that’s going on in your life. And not everyone is the right fit. This information will help you. In addition, I’m going to give you some practical information that I think everyone should know before going into counseling.
Now, we specialize in relationship issues—all therapists could specialize in different things—that’s what we do best. We work with couples and individuals. When couples come in, we’re going to help create a safe environment without judgment or blame where you can get to the heart of the matter and have a deeper understanding of what’s really going on between you two. I often find that when clients have that clarity, they can make healthier decisions and treat each other better.In addition, we’re really good at teaching communication skills and tools that are really necessary for having a healthy relationship. We’re going to help you with those tools during our session, and we’re going to also ask you to do it at home.
Now, everyone that works for me is also old enough and has enough life experience to back up their skillset. It’s important for you to know that. A lot of people can get training, and go to school, and get all of the things necessary to be licensed, but it takes somebody who has enough life experience to really be a great couples counselor.
We’re down-to-earth, we’re interactive, we’re heartfelt. We’re much like a relationship coach, we’re solution-focused. And with our help, we’re going to create relationship goals. It’s very important to have these when you’re in counseling. First of all, it’s going to guide your therapy; you’re going to know how you’re doing along the way. Do you need to make adjustments? Are you getting what you want out of therapy? And it’s also going to inform all of us when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goals, which is what we want as well.
Now, a first step could be just to give me a call. I could answer any questions that you might have. And if I can find the right therapist for you in Wilmington, NC, I’ll have them call you as soon as possible. They’re going to probably talk to you a little bit about why you’re coming in. It’s a great first step so that you can get to know the person that you’re going to be seeing. And they’re going to inform you all the times that they can see you, both day and night, so that you can come in as soon as possible.
Now, sometimes people come in by themselves who are in a committed relationship, and I want you to know that that’s okay. There’s actually a lot that can happen. You can get a lot of information about yourself, about what’s going on, and about how to move forward in a really good way. Sometimes people come in who are dating who are struggling with finding the right person, and they want to make really healthy decisions for finding the person to marry. We do premarital counseling. Sometimes people want to come in and, based on their own communication style, find the right tools and skills so they can have a healthy relationship and learn some things along the way. And, of course, we specialize in marriage counseling – you can come in any time.
Now, something that you can check out with your insurance company: if you have any out-of-network coverage, we might be able to help you. And I really encourage you to go check that out. You can call your insurance company. You also can check with HR if you have any flex spending or health savings accounts; sometimes people use those monies to help pay for this sort of thing.
