Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I am the founder of our center. I want to do this video to help you make a decision. Are we the right therapist for you? I want to let you know a little bit about what to expect when you come to therapy. It might be helpful, especially if this is your first time doing something like this. I’m also going to give you some very practical information that I think everyone should know, including how to help pay for therapy.
Now, being a therapist, I’ve helped people throughout my life, and I can tell you this, that every human being runs into roadblocks in their life. It is completely natural to want help and need help. I say this because a lot of people have a lot of difficulty in reaching out and asking for help, and I want that not to be the case. Reaching out to a licensed professional can be one of the best things that you’ve ever done. We have a wealth of experience of helping people through all kinds of issues, and we bring that all to the table.
When you come into your first session, we’re probably going to ask you a little bit about what you want to work on. What’s going on in your life? You’re going to tell us your thoughts, your feelings, and your opinions about your life issue. We’re going to ask a lot of questions, and we’re going to have a very interactive conversation about you and your life. Many people find this style of therapy to be very comfortable.
At the heart of the dialogue, though, is we want to get to know what’s really going on for you, and that’s always what’s driving our conversation. And once we do, we want to help you create a roadmap to improve your life so that you can be happy. We offer skills and tools that will be helpful for you. We want to also help you take those out of our session and into the real world where you can apply them to the people in your life. And, of course, we’ll help you do that in your own pace, in your own time.
A good first step could be just picking up the phone. You can talk to one of the therapists that we have, the one that you’d be seeing, and get to know them. Tell them a little bit about what’s going on in your life. You could ask them questions about when they can see you, day or evening. And it’s just a great way to get to know who we are. And if you feel comfortable with that person on the phone, then and only then should you make an appointment.
We have a lot of videos and articles on our website, if you haven’t noticed. I really encourage you to check those out. You might find a life issue that you currently are going through, and maybe get some good information that you can use right now. It’s also a great way to get to know who we are and the kinds of advice that we give.
Now, we are an out-of-pocket provider, people pay directly to us, but a lot of people have insurance, and they have what’s called out-of-network coverage. Now, we are out-of-network providers. If you call your insurance provider and verify if you have out-of-network coverage, we can give you an invoice that may assist you in getting reimbursed. Also, sometimes people have health benefit accounts, flex spending, things like that, and these accounts sometimes can be used to help pay for therapy.
