Sue Lonsway is a licensed professional clinical counselor In Toledo who has over 25 years experience in working with individuals and couples. Sue brings a holistic approach to counseling to restore a balance of health and wellness to all areas of your life. She frequently works with depression and anxiety, as this can affect you individually and within your relationship with your

Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a Licensed Therapist and I’m the Founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Toledo, OH. I’m here to give you some information that’ll be helpful in understanding if we are the right therapists for you, and it’s also just good information that everyone should know about counseling. Some of it’s going to be really practical stuff too.

First of all, we specialize in relationship issues. We work with couples and individuals. When couples come in, we’re going to create a safe environment so that you can come in and hopefully get to the bottom of what’s really going on between you two. I often find that when clients have that clarity about what’s going on, they can choose different behavior and treat each other more respectfully.

Now, everyone that works for our center is old enough and has enough life experience to back up their skillset, and that’s good for you to know. We’re down-to-earth, we’re interactive, we’re active participants helping you in your relationship, we’re solution-focused.

With our help, we’re going to develop relationship goals that really matter to you. What’s important about that is it’ll guide your therapy. You’ll know how you’re doing in therapy, if you’re getting what you want out of it based on those goals. In addition, we’re all going to know when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal.

Now, sometimes people come in for couples counseling and marriage counseling—that’s our specialty—but sometimes you want to come in by yourself when you’re in a committed relationship because you want to get clear about something, you want to have more understanding. Maybe you want to know how you can effect positive change on your own. Sometimes people want to come in who are dating and want to make good choices in choosing that right life partner. We also work with premarital counseling and helping people really set up for success, and create strategies that are based on your communication styles that are going to work for your lifetime.

If you’d like to take the next step, I might recommend just giving me a call. I could hopefully answer any question that you might have. And if everything feels good, I’ll have the Toledo, OH therapist give you a call. They’ll call you as soon as possible. They’ll probably ask a little bit about why you’re coming in, they’re going to tell you all the times that you can see them, both day and night. We usually can get you in within 24 to 48 hours.

Some of the practical stuff that you should know, we’re out-of-network therapists, so if you have any insurance coverage for out-of-network therapy which you can verify with your insurance company, we could give you an invoice and you could submit it to them, and you might get some money back. Also, if you have any flex spending or health savings accounts through work, sometimes people use those monies to pay for their therapy.

I’m doing this video to help you make a good decision, whether we are the right therapist for you, and I also just want to give you some information that I think everyone should know when you’re coming into counseling; what to expect, and even some unique ways to pay for it.

Everyone in their lives from time to time needs help. It is completely healthy and natural to not have the answers and to want to reach out and ask somebody for some assistance. Reaching out to a licensed professional can be a very good idea. We work with a lot of people. We have a lot of experience that has helped people in the past. We are solution-focused therapists, which is important for you to know. We’re not only listening and interactive, but we’re active participants helping you find the right skills and tools that are necessary for you to move forward in your life in a really good way.

Now, when you come into your first session, you might share your thoughts and your feelings about your life and we’re probably going to ask you a lot of questions. It’s a really great way, it’s very interactive, I think it makes people feel very comfortable because it’s like a conversation. And those questions are helpful in several ways. One of them is it’s going to help us understand you, which is going to be really key in us helping you with your life. Also, when we ask questions, clients often find that they discover new things they didn’t understand before, have epiphanies. It can be very helpful, deepening your own understanding about your life.
Also, we are solution-focused therapists, so we’re going to help you develop skills and tools in our session and we’re going to help you take those out into your life in your own time and help you along the way as you move into those new solutions to see if they actually work.

Now, a good first step could be just to go on our website and you can look at some of our articles and videos. It’s a great way to see the kinds of advice that we give and get a feeling for us, and I also highly recommend that you pick up the phone and give us a call. Our friendly receptionist could hopefully answer any basic questions that you have, and if you want to talk to the therapist that you’re going to be seeing, they can connect you with that therapist. You’ll probably tell them a little bit about why you’re coming in and it’s just a good way to get a feel for that person, for their personality, see if you feel comfortable with them. And if you do, then you can make an appointment with them and really see if they’re the right person for you.

Another way to pay for therapy, at least to get some assistance, is that if you have what’s called out-of-network coverage, you can verify that with your insurance company. We sometimes can provide an invoice that can be helpful in getting some money back from your insurance company. Also, you might have what’s called an employee benefit, something like flex spending, and sometimes you can use those monies to help pay for your therapy. We specialize in a solution-focused approach to individual counseling, couples therapy, couples counseling and marriage counseling.

Explore Life & Love in Toledo, Ohio

Truth-be-told, today’s world is riddled with distractions upon distractions. And, aside from work, family, children, and personal demands, there is a myriad of technological inventions (i.e. Smartphones, iPads, iPods, Kindles, computers, televisions, game system consoles, etc.) that suck up your time and attention. Unfortunately, this does not bode well for relationships, especially marriages. Before you know it, days have turned into months, which then turn into years, and by that point you have lost each other. You have wasted valuable time on things that simply do not matter in the grand scheme of things. Time that you could have spent with friends, family, your spouse/partner, and/or children. Time that you could have spent doing something you love like going bowling, skiing, or playing tennis.

Truth-be-told, “getting back on track” in your relationship is not always an easy task, but it is doable and it is important. How can you do that? Well, sometimes, going back to the basics is the key to saving and/or strengthening a relationship. You can breathe life into your relationship by planning a special date with your sweetie – attending a play, listening to the sweet sounds of a symphony, having a romantic dinner, and/or taking an evening stroll through a historic neighborhood are all ways to rekindle your love for one another. The key to a successful relationship is quality time together. It does not have to be “fancy” or “sporty,” in fact, it can be whatever you want it to be, just as long as you do it together, and you both feel comfortable. A relationship should never feel forced, rather, it should feel easy, comfortable, and “like home.” If your relationship does not feel like that, it is time to make some changes.

The Valentine Theatre
When was the last time you got all “dolled up” and went to a play, musical, or concert? I bet it was a long time ago. Well, now is the time to do just that – are you ready? Spend the evening indulging in an “Off Broadway” musical or play, or jump around at one of its many concerts. The Valentine Theatre is located in downtown Toledo and sponsored by the Toledo Cultural Arts Center. The Center also showcases the Toledo Symphony and the Toledo Ballet several times a year. And, with only 900 seats available inside of it, no matter where you sit, you still have the best seat in the house! Sometimes you just need to get “lost” for a little while. What do I mean? Well, sometimes, especially, when you are experiencing relationship issues, you just need to “escape” from your problems, and just relax a little. Well, if that is the case, I have just the solution for you – The Toledo Symphony. For over five decades, the Symphony has provided listeners with live concerts throughout the city. It also provides Northwest Ohio with a sense of elegance, style, and beauty. So, if you are in desperate need of an intimate date with your sweetheart, consider spending the evening listening to the sweet sounds of The Toledo Symphony. This first-class orchestra will have you falling in love all over again.

Mancy’s Steakhouse
You know the saying “The best way to someone’s heart is through his or her stomach,” well, it is true, so if you want to talk about something slightly stressful or you want to avoid any stress at all, make reservations at Mancy’s Steakhouse. Let’s be truthful, things don’t seem so bad on a full stomach, especially if the food was out-of-this-world delicious. Am I right? But, try to bring up a touchy subject when your partner is hungry, and World War III is sure to erupt. Mancy’s is not only one of the city’s oldest steakhouses; it is also one of the best.

Old West End
Who doesn’t know the historic Old West End neighborhood in Toledo? No one! Old West End is a staple in Toledo. And, in case you did not know (although I’m sure you do), it is located slightly west of downtown and stretches at least 25 or more city blocks. The best thing about this area is that you can stroll through the neighborhood as you soak in the Victorian, Edwardian, Queen Ann, French Second Empire, Colonial, Dutch Colonial, and Italian Renaissance-styled buildings, homes, and structures. And, guess what? If you are looking for more excitement, every weekend in June the King Wamba Parade floats through the streets of Old West End. The King Wamba Parade features talented performers, colorful floats, and the annual crowing of King Wamba and Queen Sancha. In addition, to the lively parade, this festival consists of numerous food vendors, yard sales, house tours, car shows, art fairs, and artistes. Moreover, this historic neighborhood is home to a myriad of bed and breakfast inns, and the Toledo Museum of Art. With all of these attractions, events, and activities, you and your sweetie will have tons to talk about for a long time.
