Hello, my name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist and I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center of San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, CA. I’m going to give you some information about who we are, and also some information that’s going to be very helpful for you, especially if this is new for you and this is your first time. Some of it’s going to be very practical that you need to know, and some of it is about who we are and whether we are the right fit for you.

One thing is that we specialize in relationship issues, that’s our primary purpose. We help couples and individuals find happiness in their lives. One of the things, if you come in as a couple, is we’re going to create a safe environment for you to explore and hopefully get to the bottom of what’s really going on between you two. With our help and that added understanding and clarity between you two, we find couples can often make different decisions at home, treat each other better, and find a happier life.We also teach a lot of skills and tools that are necessary to learn how to communicate better. Not only do we teach these skills, but we really encourage you to use those at home where it matters most.

Everybody that I hire is also old enough to have enough life experience to back up their skillset, and that’s important for you to know. We come across and many people find that we are down to earth, we’re very interactive, we give a lot of direct feedback, and I think people find that really refreshing; much like a coaching style, solution-focused style to therapy. We’re active participants helping you change your relationship.

With our help, you’re going to set up relationship goals. It’s very important that you set up those goals I think because you can track how you’re doing. Are you getting your money’s worth? Are you moving in the right direction? It’s important for you to track that. In addition, you’ll know when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal. That’s my goal for you as well is I want you to have a happy life and not need to come in here.

Sometimes people come in by themselves, maybe they want to explore their relationship, get clear about what’s going on and they want to do that by themselves without their partner. Believe it or not, a lot can get done coming in by yourself. Sometimes people come in who are not in a committed relationship, but want to make really great decisions when they’re dating, perhaps find that right life partner for themselves. And, of course, we specialize in marriage counseling, in couples therapy, and married and unmarried couples come in to receive help.

Really, the first step is to give me a call and I could answer perhaps every question you might have, but most importantly, I would want you to talk to the therapist that’s the right fit for you. On that phone call, you can get to know your therapist that you’re going to be seeing which is a great first step. They’ll probably ask you a little bit about why you’re coming in, and they’re going to tell you all the times that you can see them, both day and night so that you can come in as soon as possible.

Some of the practical stuff that you should know is that we are out-of-network therapists. What this means, if you verify with your insurance company that you do indeed have out-of-network coverage, we can give you an invoice and you might be able to get some money back from your insurance company. Some people have flex spending or health savings accounts through work, and sometimes you can use those monies to pay for it.

I have a lot of videos and articles on my website, and I really encourage you to watch it. If you go through there, you’re probably going to find an issue that you can relate to and you’re going to get some advice that maybe you can use right now that might even help you in your relationship. It’s free, so please use it. It’s also a great way to get to know who we are.

Give me a call if you’d like to take the next step. Thank you.

So, I’ve had what I’ll call “classic” issues with therapy. Until about 18 months ago, I thought that I could just deal with whatever I needed to, without help. Yeah. Then, I had a couple of unsuccessful starts with a couple of other therapists; One who really sucked, and one whose style was more along
