Hello, my name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist and I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Salt Lake City, UT. I’m going to give you some great advice and information that’s going to be helpful for you whether you see anybody at our center or not, especially if it’s your first time doing something like this.

At Relationship Counseling Center, we specialize in relationship issues and that’s important for you to know. That’s our primary purpose, this is what we’re good at. We help couples and individuals. When couples come in, you’re going to find that we create an environment that’s safe, without judgment, without blame where a deeper understanding can happen and hopefully we can get to the bottom of what’s really going on between you two. With this added clarity, couples often find it’s easier to make loving and caring decisions with one another. But we also teach skills and tools that are necessary for you to make differences in your communication skills. Also, all of our therapists are old enough to have enough life experience to back up our skillset. We’re licensed therapists. Many people find that we’re direct, we’re interactive, we’re down to earth. We have a very solution-focused style to doing counseling.

When you come in, we’re going to help you develop relationship goals, and it’s very important because you can track how you’re doing through counseling. “Is this effective for me? Is this helping us?” In addition, you’ll know when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal, and that’s our ultimate goal is for you not to be in therapy because you’re living a happy life.

Another thing is sometimes people come in by themselves when they’re in a relationship. It can be really helpful having an independent third party give you clarity and help you work through things to make better decisions in your relationship. Sometimes people come in when they’re dating, they want to make healthy decisions to find that right partner, they’re tired of making perhaps poor choices in people and want to find the right person. And, of course, we specialize in marriage counseling, in couples counseling. Both married and unmarried couples come in to receive help.

One of the first things you can do is just give me a call, I could answer any question that you might have. If everything feels good for you, I’ll have the therapist call you as soon as possible. It’s great because you can get to know the therapist you’re going to be seeing in Salt Lake City, UT; it’s a great first step. In addition, they’re probably going to ask a little bit about why you’re coming in. They’re also going to let you know all the times that you can see them, both day and night so that you can come in as soon as possible.

Another thing that you might want to consider, especially on the more practical side, is that we are out-of-network. So that means that if you have out-of-network coverage which you can verify with your insurance company, we might be able to give you an invoice with codes on it that can get you some reimbursement for your therapy. If you have any flex spending or health savings accounts through work, sometimes people use those monies to pay for it. You can check with your HR to see if that’s possible.

One thing that a lot of people don’t know is that we have free advice on our website. If you go to our articles and videos section, you’re probably going to find an issue on there that you can relate to and could even with that advice, start using some of those suggestions right now in your relationship. It’s a great way to start. In addition, you’re going to get to know us a little bit and the kinds of advice that we give.

If you’d like that kind of help, please reach out to me and I would love to talk with you about it. Thank you so much.

So, I’ve had what I’ll call “classic” issues with therapy. Until about 18 months ago, I thought that I could just deal with whatever I needed to, without help. Yeah. Then, I had a couple of unsuccessful starts with a couple of other therapists; One who really sucked, and one whose style was more along
