Individuals often struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression or find themselves in a perpetual cycle of re-experiencing painful life situations. Wanting to understand our experience and learn healthy life strategies is a pursuit worthy of exploration in therapy. With a professional outside point of view, clients often discover the inner resources and develop strategies that can make the difference in their lives.

We have a very effective coaching style to couples counseling that is hands-on and interactive. Through this solution-focused format we can help couples reduce harmful behavior and begin to treat each other with respect and love. With the help of a therapist, couples can begin to stop harming each other, develop a better understanding of their issues and develop the skills and tools necessary to find happiness.

If you are looking for a down-to-earth Pittsburgh therapist who integrates interactive exchange, direct feedback, and goal-focused therapy, you’ve come to the right place.

Hello, my name is Sevin Philips. I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Pittsburgh, PA, and I’m also a licensed therapist. I’m going to give you some information that I think everyone should know in making a decision on who’s the right therapist for you, especially if you’ve never done this before. There’s just so much that I feel like everyone should know to make an informed decision.

First of all, Relationship Counseling Center specializes in relationship issues, that’s what we do best. We work with couple and individuals. When couples come in, we’re going to help you create a safe place so you can have conversations that may be difficult at home. We also are going to help you get to the bottom of what’s really going on between you two. With this added understanding, we often find couples can make different decisions, healthier decisions, more respectful. We also teach the skills and tools necessary for you to be better communicators. We also want you to take those skills that we teach you in session to take them home where it really matters most.Everyone I hire is also old enough and has enough life experience to back up our skillset. We’re licensed therapists, we’re direct, we give a lot of feedback, we’re down to earth. Many people find we are a solution-focused style, almost like a relationship coach; we’re active participants helping you in your relationship.

With our help, you set up relationship goals. It’s important for you to do that because, first of all, you can track how you’re doing in counseling which is very important. Are you going in the right direction? Are you getting what you want out of being here? Most importantly, we’ll all know when it’s time for you to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal, and that’s really what we want.

One thing you should know is that sometimes people come in by themselves. You can get a lot done, surprisingly, by yourself in figuring out, getting clear about what’s going on and even making healthier decisions on your own could have a great impact on your relationship. Sometimes people come in by themselves who are dating, perhaps they’ve made the same decisions over and over again in their dating life and it isn’t working out in finding that right life partner, and you want to make new and improved decisions. It could be a great place to do that. And, of course, we specialize in marriage counseling and couples therapy. Both married and unmarried couples come in all the time and get help from us.

A first step is to give me a call. I’d love to talk with you, answer any question that you might have and figure out the best therapist for you. If so, and you’re comfortable, I’ll have that therapist call you immediately so that you can talk to them on the phone. It’s a great first step because you want to start getting comfortable with the person you’re going to be seeing. They’re probably going to ask you a little bit about why you’re coming in. In addition, they’re going to tell you all the times that you can see them both day and night. We usually can see you pretty quickly, I’d say 24 to 48 hours on average.

Some of the practical stuff that you should know: we’re licensed therapists and as such, if you have any out-of-network coverage, you might find that you can seek reimbursement from your insurance company and we can give you an invoice to assist you. Some people have flex spending, health savings accounts, and sometimes they can use those monies.

If you haven’t noticed, I have a lot of articles and videos on this website. I bet you if you went through it, you probably could find an issue that you can relate to that you’re facing right now in your relationship and you can get some relationship advice right here and right now. It’s free, so please use it. In addition, it’s a great way to get to know who we are because if you’d like the help, reach out to me, and I would love to talk with you. Thank you.

So, I’ve had what I’ll call “classic” issues with therapy. Until about 18 months ago, I thought that I could just deal with whatever I needed to, without help. Yeah. Then, I had a couple of unsuccessful starts with a couple of other therapists; One who really sucked, and one whose style was more along
