Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a Licensed Therapist and I’m the Founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Omaha, NE. I’m doing this video so that you can understand if we are the right therapists for you, and secondly, if you’re new to therapy, this is a great first step in understanding not only how to pick a therapist, but what makes good therapy, and also how to pay for it. There’s some practical information that everyone should know.
First of all, at our center, we specialize in relationships – that’s what we do best. We work with individuals and couples. When couples come in, we create a safe environment so that you can have more understanding. I find often with this added clarity, that couples can start treating each other better. With more understanding, people can begin to heal. But beyond that, we’re really good at teaching the skills and tools that are necessary for good communication. We want you to take that information not only in session and practice it with us, but we want you to take it home where it matters most.
Now, everyone who works for my center is old enough and has enough life experience to back up their skillset, and that’s important for you to know. We are very much a coaching style to couples counseling. We are solution-focused. Many people find that we’re down-to-earth, direct, and give a lot of feedback. We’re not only listening to you each and every session, but we’re active participants helping you change into a healthy relationship and make the right adjustments.We’re going to help you identify relationship goals, and that’s very important.
Once you have relationship goals, you can know how you’re doing in your therapy. Are you moving in the right direction? And, of course, when it’s time to end therapy, we’re all going to know it because you’ve achieved your goal which is what we want the most is to not be in therapy because you’re happy and you’re doing well in your relationship.A first step could be to give me a call. It’s good to talk to the person you’re seeing because you can get to know them a little bit. They’re probably going to ask you a little bit about why you’re coming in and they’re going to tell you all the times they have available this week and next week, both day and night. We usually can get you in within 24 to 48 hours.
Sometimes people come in who are in a couple, obviously marriage counseling couples therapy is our specialty, but sometimes people want to come in by themselves who are in a committed relationship. Sometimes it could be helpful coming in alone and getting some perspective, a deeper understanding of what’s happening, and even some strategies about how you can improve your relationship. Sometimes people want to come in by themselves who are dating and they want to work out picking the right person. Perhaps there’s a style in which you’ve been picking people that haven’t served you, and you want to find that right life partner and want some help. We also specialize in premarital counseling if you’re new, and wanting to get married, and wanting to set up for success and want to get some great strategies that are based on your communication styles. That’s a really great thing to do.
If you don’t know this, some people have what is called out-of-network therapy insurance and you can call your insurance company and find out. And if you do, we can give you an invoice that might get you some money back. Also, sometimes people have what’s called flex spending or health savings accounts, and many people use those funds to pay for their therapy.
