Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist, and I’m the founder of our center. I’ve created this video to help you. I want to help you make a decision if we are the right therapist for you. Not every therapist is the right fit for everyone, and I’m going to tell you a little bit about our approach and the kinds of therapists that we are. I also want to give you some basic information, specifically about how to help pay for therapy. And also, I want to give you some understanding, especially if you’re new to therapy, about what to expect when you come into therapy in your first session.
Now, everyone, and I mean everyone runs into challenges in their life. We don’t always have the answers, and sometimes we feel very stuck. It’s completely natural, and normal, and healthy to reach out and ask for help. Reaching out to a licensed professional can be a very smart decision. We’ve helped hundreds, if not, thousands of people, so we have a lot of experience to pull from. We also, everyone I hire at least, has enough life experience to back up their skillset, and that’s important for you to know.
When you come into your first session, we’re most likely going to ask you your thoughts and your feelings about your life issue. We want to get to know you and what you think’s going on in your life. We’re going to ask a lot of questions. We’re going to have a very interactive exchange, a dialogue, a conversation. And I think clients really like that style of therapy; it’s very natural and organic.
And eventually, over the first couple of sessions, we want to get to the heart of the matter with you, we want to get to the bottom of what’s really going on in your life so that we can best help you create the kinds of goals that would be the most helpful goals for you, and help you create a roadmap to move forward in your life.
We are solution-focused therapists, so ultimately, we want to teach you the right skills and tools that are necessary for you to move forward in very healthy ways. We’re going to help you during our sessions, but we’re also going to really support you in taking what you’ve learned here out into your life where it matters most, in your own pace, in your own time.
A good first step is just picking up the phone. You can talk to the therapist that you would be seeing on the phone without any commitment at all. Get to know them. See if you feel comfortable before you make an appointment. You can ask them questions about when you could see them, both day and night. We usually can get to make an appointment within 24 to 48 hours. And you also can tell them a little bit about why you’re coming into therapy
Another thing that you can do is check out the videos that we have on our website. We have a lot of videos and articles, and you’re probably going to find an issue that you’re going through in your life, and something you can relate to and maybe even some solutions that you can apply today. It’s free of charge, so it’s worth checking out. It’s also another way to get to know who we are and the kinds of advice that we give.
Now, people pay out-of-pocket when they come to Relationship Counseling Center; however, many people will use their insurance. And what I recommend is to call your insurance company and ask if they have out-of-network coverage—we are out-of-network providers—and if you do, we can provide an invoice that might help you get some reimbursement. You could have an employee benefit package, like flex spending, health savings accounts, and sometimes people use those monies to help pay for therapy.
I hope this was helpful. But most of all, I want you to know that if you’re in a place in your life where you want to move forward and you want some help doing so, please reach out, give us a call. Thank you.
