Make Beautiful Music Together in Memphis
When you think of Memphis what comes to mind? The “Blues?” Barbeque? Elvis Presley? If so, you are right on three accounts. It is true that Memphis is known for its music, food, and Elvis, of course. But, did you know that it is also a city of romance? No? Well, it is. Let’s face it – Memphis is sexy. Think about it, what other city can boast that it is the hometown of Elvis, Justin Timberlake, and even Al Green? None – just Memphis. And, really – how cool is that? In fact, some of the most romantic songs were created right in your city. That is why Memphis should be listed below the term “love songs” in the dictionary. So, as the saying goes – it’s not over until the last piece of barbeque has been eaten. Ok, ok, I made up the barbeque saying, but you get my drift. There is still hope for your relationship, just look into your sweetheart’s eyes and serenade him or her with your own unique rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” But, don’t forget to also try these ultra-swoon-worthy “couple activities” to get your relationship back on track.
Listed below are some ways that you and your partner can harmoniously reconnect:
Memphis Botanic Gardens
Is your relationship losing some of its beauty and wonder? If so, invite your partner to the Memphis Botanic Gardens. And, once there, stroll hand-in-hand through the Japanese Garden, marveling at its splendor. Once you have finished walking through the various gardens (almost 100 acres in total) pick a cozy spot and have an old-fashioned picnic (assuming that the weather cooperates). Truth-be-told, there is something for all couples, who like the outdoors to do at the Memphis Botanic Gardens. If you are looking for a way to reconnect with your significant other, this is an excellent first step. And, guess what? Well, during the holiday season, the garden hosts a real-life winter wonderland, complete with white, fluffy snow and steaming hot chocolate, available at a moment’s notice. And, that’s not all – during the spring and summer months, there are weekend concerts in the Gardens, where you and your sweetheart can enjoy good music and good company, as you watch your favorite artists belt it out under the stars. And, really, what better way is there to rekindle the romance in your relationship, while having the best-time-ever? None!
Maybe what you and your partner need to repair your damaged relationship is to take a “walk on the wild side.” Yep, I’m talking about the Memphis Zoo. So, if you want to add some “zest” to your relationship, and do something new and out-of-the-ordinary with your partner, take some time out to enjoy the “Zoo.” What’s so great about this zoo? Well, how can you be mad when you are gazing at cuddly pandas and gigantic polar bears? You can’t. And, what is even better about the zoo is that you and your partner can get up close and personal with the animals in their natural habitats, if you choose. Now, I’m not talking about getting into the enclosure with the animals, I just mean you can see them clearly. With grizzly bears, pandas, polar bears, wolves, and river otters, this zoo will sweep both you and your honey off your feet. And, guess what? Well, during the cold seasons, the zoo provides a ice skating tent, complete with twinkling red, green, and white lights. One of the best ways to reconnect with one another is to discover things together, so why not start by discovering all that the Memphis Zoo has to offer. It will definitely give you something, other than problems, to talk about. Just don’t forget your camera.
Carriage Rides of Memphis
If your relationship has lost its “dazzle,” it is probably time to re-introduce romance into it. How? Well, by taking a carriage ride through downtown Memphis, that’s how. Can you hear the clip-clopping of the horse hooves as your horse trots through the town? I can. The best thing about a carriage ride is that you can relax and enjoy the ride – no pressure – no stress. If you have been having relationship problems, and things are tense, well, this is the best way to de-stress and unwind – together. It is also a good way to escape your problems, at least for a little while, and simply enjoy each other’s company. The carriage ride starts at the famed Peabody Hotel and then travels through a business district. During the trip you will pass by the bustling Beale Street and South Main. And, guess what? These horse-drawn carriage rides are available for both day and night trips. In addition, the majority of the carriages are decorated with sparkling lights to promote love and romance. Moreover, you can request themed-carriage rides (i.e. a carriage that is decorated like Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, Queen Elizabeth’s carriage, or Cleopatra’s carriage). So, add some romance to your relationship by exploring Memphis with fresh eyes.
Memphis Brooks Museum of Art & Brushmark Restaurant
When was the last time you and your significant other got all “dolled up” and went on a fancy date? I bet it has been a long time – with kids, work, and household responsibilities, couples just don’t have time to go on dates, especially really nice ones. Well, maybe that is what is missing in your relationship – dates. Regardless of whether you have “big money” to go on an expensive date, you can still get dressed up and enjoy an old-fashioned date. How? Well, by taking a tour of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art then grabbing a bottle or a couple of glasses of your favorite wine at the Brushmark Restaurant. Did you know that this museum is located in a 1916 building and that it features a variety of elegant decorative pieces (art) stemming from the beginning of the century until this present time? It does. In fact, you can find art from the following time periods – French Impressionism, Italian Renaissance, and the Baroque-era, along with 20th-century American creations.
Once you have finished perusing the art work and discussing what you see in the pieces, head over to the Brushmark Restaurant for some grub and wine, as I mentioned before. The good news is that Brushmark Restaurant is open daily for brunch, lunch, and Afternoon Tea, of course. For an out-of-this-world culinary experience, try the delicious Reuben with house-smoked corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss or the Salmon BLT with baby spinach and dill aioli. And, if you want to experience a little European culture, don’t forget to try Afternoon Tea (i.e. tea sandwiches, scones, and/or Biscotti with espresso, latte, cappuccino, and/or one of the restaurant’s specialty teas). It is offered every Wednesday from 2 to 4pm.
