Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist, and I’m the founder of our counseling center in Los Angeles. I’m here to give you some information that’s going to be very helpful in deciding if we’re the right therapists for you, and I’m giving this information also because I want to help you understand what our counseling approach is, and what you can expect, and what kinds of help you can receive from our LA therapists.
First off, it can be a very intimidating and scary decision to make to pick somebody that you don’t know and reach out and ask for help, and share with this person very intimate details of your life. We know this. At one point in time, we’ve been a client and we’ve had to do this ourselves. We make this a very safe place to do that. We also have helped hundreds, if not, thousands of people work through issues in their life so we have a lot of compassion, a lot of understanding about human nature, and therefore, we have a lot of roadmaps, solutions, and skills to help people in the issues that you’re facing.
First off, we’re going to have you come in and most likely have you share your thoughts, your feelings, your ideas about your issue. During that process, we’re going to give some feedback. We’ll probably ask some questions. Getting to know you is part of that question asking process, and it can be a really great way for us to build trust.
Also, once we get to know you and you get to understand your issue at a deeper level, we’re going to have all kinds of solutions and strategies that may be able to help you, and you can start actively putting those out in your life. We’ll support you as you go through those changes and make adjustments where needed. We are solution-focused therapists.
A good first step could be just to watch some videos on our website. We have articles and videos on all kinds of issues relating to couples therapy, couples counseling and marriage counseling, and you can maybe find something that you can relate to and definitely get a good sense of who we are by the kinds of advice that we give. I would say the most important thing you can do in understanding if our LA therapist is the right fit for you is to reach out, give us a call. One of our receptionists will help you find the right therapist and direct you to that person, maybe immediately, and you can talk to them on the phone and tell them a little bit about what’s going on in your life. And get to know their personality, it’s a great way to start feeling comfortable with the person you’re going to see without any commitment whatsoever. You can think about it, call us back. You don’t have to call us back, but it’s a great way to begin that relationship and making this process a little more comfortable for you.
I hope this helps. One thing I might mention is you can sometimes pay for therapy using what’s called out-of-network coverage if you have that sort of coverage with your insurance company; you can verify it by giving them a call. You might have what’s called health savings accounts, something like that through work. We often provide invoices to help our clients pay for LA therapy.
