Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m the founder of our center. I’ve created this video to help you understand if we are the right therapist for you. You want to find the right fit. You might even be just exploring whether or not therapy is the right thing for you in your life at this time. I’m going to give you some basic information about what to expect from therapy, how it works, and also the kinds of approaches that we take. In addition, I’m going to give you some basic information that I think everyone should know when you’re trying to decide how to pay for therapy.
So, first off, everyone runs into trouble in their life and needs help. It’s a very healthy and natural thing for us to be able to reach out and ask for help. And reaching out to a licensed therapist can be a very smart decision. Some of us have friends and family to talk to, some of us do not, but we are a very unique relationship. This is one place where it gets to be just about you. That’s a very safe place, you can share anything here. We focus on you and helping you move forward in your life.
We are very interactive, so we ask a lot of questions. And I find that a lot of clients find that very relaxing; it’s much like a conversation. But our intention as we get to know you in asking these questions is learning your thoughts, your feelings, and your opinions about your life issue. What’s really helpful about having a deep conversation about these issues is you can learn a lot about yourself, and I often find that clients have epiphanies about their life and deeper understanding about what’s happening, and that can create a lot of help.
But most, we’re solution-focused therapists so we’re going to help you create a roadmap moving forward in your life. Once we get to know you and with your help, we’ll bring in the right tools and skills, we’ll talk about those during session and we’ll support you as you move out into your life and practice those in your own pace.
If you want to get to know us, I might recommend that you check out some of the videos and articles on our website. It’s a great way to find out the kinds of advice that we may give. Also, reaching out on the phone is a really great first step. Some of our receptionists will help you maybe with basic questions, but they can direct you to the therapist so you can talk to them on the phone, have a conversation. There’s no commitment at all, see if you feel comfortable with the therapist that you would be seeing. Tell them a little bit about why you’re coming in. They’re probably going to give you some basic information, too, about when you can see them, both day and night so that you can come in as soon as you would like. And if you feel comfortable, make an appointment.
