Hi. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m the founder of our center. I’ve created this video to help you figure out if we are the right therapist for you. Not every therapist is the right match, and so I want to give you some information about our approach and what kinds of therapists we are, and what you can expect for your first session. I’m also going to give you some practical information that I think everyone should know, specifically in how to help pay for therapy.

Now, when you come into your first session, we’re going to ask you: what do you want to work on? What is your life issue? We’re going to listen to your thoughts, your feelings, your opinions, and we’re going to ask a lot of questions. We’re going to have a very interactive exchange, and we’re going to have a conversation about you. It’s a really great way to get to know you so that we can better help you, and it’s also a very comfortable way to do therapy. We’re going to hopefully help you get to the bottom and the root of what’s really happening in your life.

What’s different about therapy compared to talking to friends or family, although you may or may not have that as a resource, it’s one place in the world where it gets to be just about you, and it’s a one-way relationship. And that’s a very special place to get a lot of work done and really move forward in your life in a very positive and effective manner.

Once we help figure out what’s going on in your life, we’re going to suggest tools and strategies to help you move forward in effective ways. We are solution-focused therapists. We’re going to help you in our sessions, work on those, but most importantly, we’re eventually going to help you move out into your life and start practicing these things where it matters most, to have the most impact on your life, and of course, in your own pace, in your own time.

A good first step is just picking up the phone. You can talk to the therapist that you would be seeing and get to know them. See if you like them. See if you think they’re the right person for you. Are you comfortable with them? And only then will you make an appointment. You can tell them a little bit about why you’re coming in, you could ask them questions about when they could see you, both day and night, so that you can come in as soon as possible.

We have a lot of videos and articles on our website. It’s free information, and you probably can find something on there that you can relate to, and maybe even apply to your life today. It’s also a great way to get to know who we are.

People pay out-of-pocket for our services, but people also use what’s called out-of-network coverage. If you have out-of-network coverage, you can call your insurance company to verify, and we can give you an invoice that may help you get some form of reimbursement. Some people have employee benefit programs, things like flex spending, and sometimes you can use those funds to help pay for therapy.

I hope it was helpful. Most importantly, I want you to know that we’re here to help. Please reach out if you’d like to take the next step. Thank you.
