Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m here to tell you about therapy, the kinds of approaches that we take, and also some practical information that I think everyone should know, including how to help pay for therapy. My hopes is that doing this video will help you make a decision if we are the right therapist for you.
And when you come into therapy, we’re probably going to ask you some questions about your thoughts and your feelings about your life issue. We’re going to ask a lot of questions. We’re going to get to know you. It’s a very interactive exchange, and I think clients find that very comfortable. It’s much like a conversation. And I know a lot of us may have friends or family, some of us don’t necessarily, that you can talk about really difficult subjects. But what’s really unique about this relationship, this is the one place in your life where it gets to be just about you, and people find that a pretty special place.
When you come in and we have this dialogue, we’re also getting to know you to get to the bottom of what’s actually happening for you in your life. We have a wealth of experience from helping many people, and we ultimately want to help you create a roadmap to move forward in your life. We are solution-focused therapists, so we’re going to teach you skills and tools that will be necessary for you to take out into the world and begin to practice those, and make changes. We, of course, will assist you with that, and also do it in your own pace.
A good first step could be just to pick up the phone. You can call us and talk to the therapist that you would be seeing, and see if you like them, see if you feel comfortable on the phone with them. It’s a great first step. You can tell them a little bit about why you’re coming in, and you could ask them questions about when they could see you, both day and night. We usually can get to people within 24 to 48 hours.
Another thing you can do is check out our website. We have a lot of videos on our website with all kinds of relationship issues, and life issues. You might even find something that you can relate to, and get some good information out of that that you can apply in your life. But mostly, it’s a great way to get to know who we are and the kinds of advice that we can give.
How to help pay for therapy, now, we are out-of-pocket providers, but a lot of people have what’s called out-of-network coverage. You can call your insurance provider and ask: “Do I have out of network coverage?” And if you do, we can give you an invoice that may help you get reimbursed. Some people have what’s called flex spending or something similar, health benefit account, and sometimes you can use those monies to help pay for therapy.
