Hello, my name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Hartford, CT. I’m going to be giving you some information that I think is important for you making a good decision about who’s the right therapist for you, and it’s just good information to have in general, especially if you’re new to this sort of thing. Some of it’s practical and some of it’s more about who we are.We are relationship specialists, so that’s our main purpose. We work with couples and individuals. When couples come in, we help them by creating a safe place, get to the bottom of what’s really going on between you two. We often find with this added clarity that couples begin to treat each other better. We also provide tools and skills that are necessary for you to communicate well. We help you in session with that, but we really want you to work on it at home as well where it matters most.All of our therapists are also old enough to have enough life experience to back up our skillset, and that’s important for you to know. We are down-to-earth, interactive, we give direct feedback. We are active participants at helping you create the relationship that you want.
One thing that we do is we create relationship goals with your help. What’s so good about that is you can track how you’re doing in counseling which is important, and also, we all know when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal.
We work with individuals who are in a relationship, sometimes it can be very beneficial just talking to somebody and getting clear about what’s going on for you, and also learn the skills that you can do to bring into your relationship. Sometimes people come in who are dating and they’re wanting to make really good choices in life partners, and perhaps change some patterns that haven’t been working so well in the past. And, of course, we specialize in marriage counseling and couples therapy, and we help married and unmarried couples in their relationship.
