Hello, my name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Grand Rapids, MI.

Many people find that relationships are very profound and very important, and when things break down, it can be sometimes the most difficult time in our life. We are specialists in relationship issues and we help both couples and individuals. I’m going to give you some information that’s going to be helpful in understanding if we are the right fit for you, also, it’s just good information for everybody, especially if you’re new to this sort of thing.

When couples come in, we help you create a safe environment where you can talk, where you can really get down to what’s really going on between you two without the judgment, without the blame, without the interruption. We also are really good at teaching the skills necessary to treat each other better. We’re also going to encourage you to take those tools home with you where you can practice them where it matters most. Because once you change your life at home and things get better, you don’t need to come to couples counseling anymore which is what we want too.

Everyone that works at the center is not only licensed, but we’re old enough and have enough life experience to back up our skillset. We’re direct, we’re interactive, we’re down-to-earth. Many call us solution-focused.

We’re going to help you identify your relationship goals which are very important. It’s going to help you understand if couples counseling is working, if it’s going in the right direction. It’s going to inform all of us when it’s time to end therapy because ultimately, when you achieve your goal, it’s time to end therapy.

A lot of people come in by themselves who are in a committed relationship, and I want you to know that’s completely acceptable. In fact, a lot can get done on your own. You can get clear, decide what to do, decide how to affect your relationship on your own, and a lot can get done. Sometimes people come in by themselves who are dating, they want to get clear about right choices and making healthy choices in life partners. And, of course, we specialize in marriage therapy, couples counseling. You can come in any time.

A first step is to give me a call. Hopefully I can answer any question you might have. If everything feels good to you, I’ll have the right Grand Rapids, MI therapist give you a call as soon as possible. You can talk to them, get to know them, get more comfortable. It’s a great first step. They’re probably going to ask a little bit about why you’re coming in. They’re going to tell you all the times that they can see you, both day and night. Usually we can get you in within 24 to 48 hours.

On a practical side, if you have any out-of-network coverage through insurance, we sometimes can give you an invoice, so verify that with your insurance company, you might be able to get some reimbursement. Sometimes people use flex spending and health savings accounts to pay for this sort of thing. You can ask your HR if that’s possible.

If you haven’t noticed, we have a lot of videos and articles on this website with professional free advice about relationship issues. You’re probably going to find something on there that you can relate to and use right now. I also encourage you to check it out because it’s a great way to get to know who we are and the kinds of therapists we are, the kind of advice we give.

If you’d like my help, reach out and give me a call. Thank you.

So, I’ve had what I’ll call “classic” issues with therapy. Until about 18 months ago, I thought that I could just deal with whatever I needed to, without help. Yeah. Then, I had a couple of unsuccessful starts with a couple of other therapists; One who really sucked, and one whose style was more along
