Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a Licensed Therapist and I’m the Founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I’ve created this video to help you understand if we are the right therapists for you. And if we’re not, I wanted to give you some really good practical information that I think everyone should know.

We specialize in relationship issues—all therapists can specialize in different things—this is what we do best. We work with couples and individuals. When couples come in, we help create an environment without judgment or blame so you can get to the heart of the matter. I often find when people get to the bottom of what’s really going on between them, they can make healthier decisions and have a deeper level of understanding about one another.

We’re really good at teaching the right communication skills and tools that are necessary for you to have a healthy relationship. I think it’s important to be that kind of a therapist because ultimately, people don’t want to be in therapy; you just want to learn how to treat each other well and communicate in a really good way so that you can have a happy life. We’re not only going to teach you these skills during our session, but we’re probably going to ask you to work on them at home, of course, where it matters.

Everyone who works for me is not only licensed, but we’re old enough and have enough life experience to back up our skillset. We’re direct and interactive. We’re down-to-earth. We’re solution-focused therapists. Much like a relationship coach, we’re active participants in your relationship; we’re not just listening to you each and every session. We’re actively helping you create a healthy relationship.

We’re going to start off by helping you create relationship goals, and I think everyone should have those when they’re going to counseling. It’s important because it’s going to guide you along the way. You’re going to know: are you getting your money’s worth? Are you going in the right direction? And if you’re not, we can make adjustments. Also, we’re all going to know when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal, and that’s ultimately what we want as well.

We specialize in marriage counseling and couples therapy, but we help people sometimes who are in a committed relationship who just want to come in by themselves, maybe their partner is reluctant and they don’t want to come in. You can get a lot done on your own. You can have a deeper understanding of what’s going on for yourself, and you also can find strategies that are going to be very helpful for you moving forward and taking care of yourself. We help people sometimes who are dating who are trying to find that right life partner and want to make healthy decisions. We do premarital counseling. It can be very helpful coming in, and we’re going to learn your communication styles and we’re going to give you some strategies based on those styles to help you set up your marriage for success.

We are out-of-pocket therapists, but if you have any out-of-network coverage insurance, we can help you get some reimbursement. You can call your insurance company and find out if you have out-of-network coverage, and we can try to get you some money back. Also, if you have anything called flex spending or health savings accounts through work, sometimes people can use those monies to pay for therapy, and a lot of people don’t know that.

Now, if you haven’t noticed, we have a lot of videos on this website. We have all kinds of relationship issues on there with some good advice and solutions. It’s free information, so I really encourage you to check it out. But also, it’s going to help you understand who we are, the kinds of advice that we give, and it will help you making this decision about finding the right therapist in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I hope this helps. If there is anything else that I can do, please let us know. Bye-bye.

So, I’ve had what I’ll call “classic” issues with therapy. Until about 18 months ago, I thought that I could just deal with whatever I needed to, without help. Yeah. Then, I had a couple of unsuccessful starts with a couple of other therapists; One who really sucked, and one whose style was more along
