Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I’m the Founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Durham, Chapel Hill, NC . I’ve created this video to help you understand if we are the right therapists for you. And if we’re not, I also wanted to include some great information that everyone should know about going to counseling.

We specialize in relationship issues, that’s what we do best. We work with couples and individuals. When couples come in, we’re going to create an environment that’s safe where you can have a really good conversation and get to the bottom of what’s really going on between you two. This added clarity can really help people move forward in healthy ways. We’re also really good at teaching the right communication skills and tools that are necessary for you to have a healthy relationship. We’re not only going to help you with those in your session, but we’re also going to promote you to do those at home.

Everyone that works at my center is old enough and has enough life experience to back up their skillset. We’re licensed therapists. We are very interactive and direct. We have a solution-focused styled to doing therapy. We’re going to help you create relationship goals. What’s really great about that, it’s going to guide you along the way. It’s going to let you know: are you getting what you want out of counseling? We can make adjustments along the way. And then we’re also going to know when it’s time to end therapy because you’ve achieved your goal, and that’s ultimately what we want as well.

You can call me for a first step. I could answer any question that you might have. And if everything feels good, I’m going to have the Durham, Chapel Hill, NC therapist call you as soon as possible. During that call, you can get to know the person you’re going to be seeing, which is a great first step. They’re also probably going to ask you a little bit about why you’re coming in. And, of course, they’re going to tell you all the times that you can come in, both day and night. We usually can see you within 24 to 48 hours.

We specialize in marriage counseling and couples therapy, but sometimes people come in by themselves who are in a committed relationship. They just want to get clear about what’s going on for them and maybe know what to do or how to move forward in a really good way. Sometimes people come in who are dating wanting to make good decisions during dating to find that right life partner. We do premarital counseling, helping people with their own communication styles, figure out good strategies for having a healthy marriage.

Now, we are out-of-network therapists, so if you have any out-of-network coverage, you can verify that with your insurance company and we can give you an invoice that might get you some form of a reimbursement. Also, sometimes people pay for therapy using things like flex spending or health savings accounts.
If you haven’t noticed, we have a lot of videos and articles on this website, those are free for the taking. There’s a lot of advice on there, and I bet you anything, if you go through them, you’re probably going to find a relationship issue that you can identify with right now. It’s also a great way to get to know who we are and the kinds of advice that we give.
I hope this helps. And if there’s anything I can do, let me know. Thank you.

So, I’ve had what I’ll call “classic” issues with therapy. Until about 18 months ago, I thought that I could just deal with whatever I needed to, without help. Yeah. Then, I had a couple of unsuccessful starts with a couple of other therapists; One who really sucked, and one whose style was more along
