Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist and I’m the founder of our center in Dallas TX. I’ve created this video to help you figure out if we are the right Dallas therapist for you. I also want to give you some good information, especially if this is your first time coming to counseling about what to expect. I’m going to tell you what kinds of therapist we are. In addition, I’m going to give you some information about how to help pay for therapy that I think you are going to like.
So, first of all, I want to tell you that everyone from time to time needs help in their life. It’s a normal and natural thing. It’s important for me to tell you this because I think a lot of us, especially in our culture, don’t ask for help. We’re ashamed to ask for help, we think it’s weak, and I actually think it takes a lot of courage to do so. If you reach out to a licensed professional, I think it’s a really good decision because we have a lot of experience working with life issues with people. We have tools and skills that we are specialized to give people and to help you move forward in your life in a really good way. You might have friends or family that you talk to, and if you do, that’s great; not everyone does. What makes this relationship really unique is this is one place in your world where it gets to be just about you.
Now, you might come into your first session and we’re probably going to ask you what’s going on in your life. We’re going to know what your thoughts and your feelings are about your life issue. And we’re going to ask a lot of questions. I think that’s a really good way to do counseling because you’re going to find it’s very interactive and I think that makes people feel more relaxed, it’s more casual. And by asking questions, we’re going to get to know you. And when we get to know you better, we’re going to be able to help you in really effective ways. Also, I think when we ask questions, you’re learning about yourself and sometimes clients come out of sessions having epiphanies or deeper understanding or clarity about their life issue, and it just feels really good.
Now, we are solution-focused therapists, and eventually we’re going to be helping you with the right skills and tools to move forward in your life. And not only are we going to work on those during session, but we’re probably going to ask you to take those out into the world when it’s the right time and work on them so you can change your life.
Now, a good idea would be to check out our website. We have videos and articles on the website. You might get a really good understanding of the kinds of advice that we give. You might even find something on there that you can relate to that will help you right now. Probably the best thing to do, though, is to give us a call. We have receptionists that can answer basic questions. And if you’d like to talk to your therapist, they can direct you to that person and you can talk to them on the phone. There’s no commitment whatsoever, and you can get to know them, tell them a little bit about what’s going on, and it’s a great way to start feeling comfortable. And if you feel comfortable, you can make an appointment with that person as soon as you can.
How to pay for therapy, now, we are out-of-pocket which means you pay cash or check with us. However, a lot of people have what’s called out-of-network coverage through their insurance company. You can call your insurance company and find out. And if you do, we can give you an invoice that may get you some money back. Also, you might have what’s called flex spending, health savings accounts, these sorts of employee benefits, sometimes you can use those funds to pay for therapy and you could explore that with your employer to see if that’s true. We specialize in a solution-focused approach to couples therapy, couples counseling, marriage counseling and individual therapy.
