My name is Sevin Phillips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m the founder of the Relationship Counseling Center in Boston,Cambridge and Brookline. Our therapists are specialists in relationship issues and that’s what people come to us for.If you think about it, relationships are some of the most important things in our lives. Movies, books, everything really points to it. In some instances, it’s very painful for us to be in relationships. Either it breaks down or there’s a lot of fighting or an event happens that causes some pain for one or both people. Our job is to slow things down and allow you to come into a neutral place where there’s no blame and no judgment, so you can understand what is really going on between you two, and with that understanding, hopefully make healthier choices. We guide you through this process, and that’s what we specialize in.Our therapists work with people in a certain way. Many people describe us as very interactive, very direct, and goal-focused. You know why you’re there. Once you achieve your relationship goal, you know when it’s time to leave. In some instances, people even refer to us as short-term therapists because we’re really there to help you with your relationship and specific goals that you create with your therapist.

Our therapists are very experienced. Not only are they old enough to know what they’re doing and have enough life experience to back it up, but they’re highly trained and sought out after with media, news, and radio as specialists in relationships.

We help people in varying stages of relationships whether you come in working on dating and choosing people in a more discerning, healthier way. Sometimes individuals come in to work on their current relationship, making better choices. Perhaps you started doing some old patterns and you don’t want to do those anymore and you want to have this relationship be different. You can come in and work on not only improving yourself, but hopefully improve the entire relationship in the process. Of course we specialize in couple’s counseling and marriage counseling where you can come in together with third-party to really slow things down and help you figure out what needs to happen and how to move forward.

There are a couple things you might want to know. We help people on a weekly basis. You’ll usually come in for one therapy hour once per week. That’s a 50-minute session where you come in and work on your relationship, and in between your sessions, you take the tools home to actually work on your relationship and improve it at home, which is really where you want it to be.

We sometimes can be covered by insurance. It’s worth checking. We are out-of-network therapists. You also may have flex spending with work, which could be very helpful. If you have either one of those, we can give you an invoice to assist you with getting reimbursed.

On this website, I have a lot of videos and a lot of articles on relationship issues. It’s a great way to understand the kinds of tools, suggestion, and solution-focused practices that we have. It’s a great way to get free information about your relationship and even use it right now in your life.

But of course, if you want some help from us and you want to come in as soon as possible, please give me a call. I’ll be more than happy to help. Thank you!

Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist and I’m the founder of our counseling center in Boston, Cambridge and Brookline. I’m here to give you some information about our counseling process. I’m going to teach you some things about us that’ll help you make a decision if we’re the right therapists for you. Also, if it’s your first time, I’m going to give you a lot of information about what to expect from this process, and how it works, and how it is exactly that we help people.

First of all, I want you to know that every human being from time to time in their life runs into issues; we all do. I say that because I want you to know that it’s okay to ask for help. Our job isn’t to just listen to you, but it’s to actively help you figure out how to move forward in your life on your own with our support. We do that in a couple different ways.

First of all, you’re probably come in and we’re going to ask you your thoughts, your opinions, your feelings about your life, your issue, and we’re going to get to know you through listening. Another way that we interact with you is we give a lot of feedback from time to time. We have insights and ideas that you may not have thought of, and it can be very helpful. We’ve helped hundreds, if not, thousands of people, and we have such a wealth of experience to offer people and unique perspective because we’ve known other people perhaps that have gone through what you’ve gone through.

Also, we’re really good at asking really good questions, and we’re getting to know you by asking questions. What’s really unique about that is those kinds of questions help you deepen your thinking around your issue and allow you to have more illumination around what’s going on for you, how you got here. With that information, we’re going to figure out a roadmap about how to move forward. We are solution-focused therapists, so we do take a lot of time when we get to the right place, in figuring out what the right kinds of skills and tools that are necessary to begin to implement in your life, and then we guide and coach you along the way as you create the change in your life that you want.

A lot of people have friends and family, and if you have those kinds of people to talk to, that’s awesome; not everyone has those relationships. But what makes this really unique is this is one place where it gets to be 100% about you and also it’s a very safe place as a result of that.

A great way to get to know our Boston therapists is to watch some of the videos on our website, to read some of the articles. You might find some issues on there that you can relate to. You’ll get to know the kinds of advice that we give.

Probably the best thing to do, though, is to reach out and give us a call. You can talk to one of our receptionists who will direct you to the right Boston therapist in your area. You can talk to that therapist on the phone, get to know who they are. It’s a great way to get comfortable with the person that you may be seeing. I don’t want anyone to make an appointment unless you feel comfortable. Share a little bit about what’s going on for you. If you feel comfortable, make an appointment; see if that person can help you.

Another thing that is important to know is sometimes people need help paying for therapy. Now, people pay out-of-pocket at our center, but you might have what’s called out-of-network coverage or flex spending through work, and sometimes you can use those funds to help pay for it. We can provide an invoice to assist you.

I hope this video is helpful, and if you do need help and want to take the next step, please pick up the phone. Thanks.

Relationship Counseling Center specializes in Couples therapy, couples counseling, marriage counseling and therapy for individuals. Located in Cambridge, Brookline, Boston.

It is easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but it is important not only for your relationship, but yourself, to take a “time-out.” In other words, in order to experience a happy, satisfying relationship, both people must make time for each other. Reconnection is the key to a long-lasting relationship, and thankfully, Boston is just the place to help you reconnect with your loved one. And, although it takes time to repair damage in a relationship, it can be done – if both people want to make it work. Truthfully, it takes time to heal relationships that have been damaged, so it is important to be supportive and patient. But, you have to start somewhere and the suggestions listed here are starting points for communication and reconnection. And, thankfully, there are a lot of fun things that couples can do in awesome Boston! So, call up a friend or family member and ask him or her to babysit, clear your schedule, and take a spin at love!

Listed below are couple activities that will help you remember just how lucky you are to have each other!

Frog Pond
Do you want to have a good time, while rekindling the flame in your relationship? If the answer is “YES,” then you will probably want to visit to Frog Pond, a popular park at the heart of the Boston Common. Truthfully, Frog Pond is a “must-do” for every Bostonian couple. Why? Well, because during the winter months (November through March), couples can ice skate together at the Pond’s ice rink. But, what if you don’t know how to ice skate? Well, there is a solution for that as well. The Skating Club of Boston offers ice skating lessons there throughout the week. Yay!!! What better way to work on your “teamwork” and communication skills, while having a blast?! And, Frog Pond isn’t just for holding hands, and holding each up (to prevent falling), it is also offers a reflecting pool during the fall and summer months.

So, why is a reflecting pool good for couples? Well, because it gives you a chance to think about life and your relationship. In other words, it helps you “reflect,” hence the name – reflecting pool. So, regardless of whether you are looking for a way to get closer (aka snuggle) or just cool off (literally and figuratively), the Pond has everything you need. And, if you get hungry – well, the Frog Pond Café is nearby to provide you with all of the goodies you will need to fully enjoy all of the activities. In fact, Frog Pond Café offers a wide assortment of yummy foods, ranging from turkey wraps to hamburgers and hotdogs to heaps of French fries and salads. And, if you want a sweet treat, it even offers a wide array of candy – yes, I said candy! So, what is the best thing about Frog Pond? Well, it is both fun and playful, which is an A-plus in any relationship!

Greenway Carousel
What is a great way to fill up your tummy, have a good time, talk, and stroll hand-in-hand? Well, by visiting Greenway Carousel. So what is so great about this carousel? Well, first of all it is located at the Tiffany & Co. Foundation Grove on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, and during the spring and early summer months, you can jump on this unique, one-of-a-kind carousel with your sweetie, or walk along the Greenway, holding hands and sharing your hopes and dreams – or, talking about your fears and concerns. And, secondly, it is located on a mile-and-a-half park right in the center of Boston! So, channel your inner child, grab your sweetheart, and take a ride on all of your favorite Bostonian animals (i.e. fox, squirrel, peregrine falcon, skunk, whale, turtle, butterfly, lobster, harbor seal, rabbit, owl, oarfish, whale, and grasshopper). In addition, during the warmer months, “deliciousness” drifts from the wide assortment of amazing food trucks that line the Greenway. So, don’t be a fool and pass on these awe-inspiring food trucks – Cookie Monstah (Share the Cinnabomb, “The Date Night,” and/or the Red Monstah) and Stoked Pizza (Enlighten your taste buds with their Barbeque Chicken and Bacon and Cheese Pizzas). The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach, after all!

Taj Boston
Want to bring back that loving feeling? Well, save a little money and book a room at a swanky hotel like the Taj Boston. What is so great about this hotel? Well, it creates ambiance of love, glamour, and romance, which is just what every couple needs once in a while. The Taj Boston is one of the city’s best hotels, and even though you are a Bostonian, it is always good for you and your relationship to occasionally “get away from your normal routine.” In other words, take a “stay-cation,” but get away from your residence. And, when it comes to choosing a place to stay, you can’t get any better than this elegant, award-winning landmark. Why? Well, because it is known for its scenic Public Garden, complete with swan boat rides, and the nearby popular Frog Pond.

In addition, the Taj Boston is surrounded by an array of restaurants, shopping plazas, art galleries, theaters, and boutiques, so there is plenty to do, while “getting away from it all” and focusing on each other. So, block out the rest of the world, and take a page out of your favorite romance book. In other words, indulge a little – a lot. So, catch a play or comedy show at the Theatre District, and/or stroll hand-in-hand through the Copley Place and/or Hynes Convention Center. And, the next time you decide to take a “stay-cation,” switch it up – book a room, at another romantic hotel like the Four Seasons Hotel Boston. Why? Well, because this hotel combines old school glamour with New England flair. It also offers postcard views of Boston’s Public Gardens, Beacon Hill, and the State House’s glided dome. How can you not rekindle the fire and passion in your relationship with this kind of setup!
