Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed therapist, and I’m the founder of our center. I’m going to give you some information to help you make a decision if we are the right therapist for you, going to let you know the kinds of approaches that we take.If you’re new to therapy or you’re just wondering how this process works, I’m going to give you some basic information that’s going to help you understand what you can expect when you come into therapy, and I’m also going to give you some practical information about how to help pay for it.
First off, everyone and I mean everyone runs into roadblocks in their life, we don’t always have the answers, and that’s a natural thing for a human being. I just want to say this because so much information we get from our culture tells us that we’re weak or there’s something inherently wrong with us because we have to ask for help, and that just is completely untrue. Asking for help is one of the best things you can do when you’re stuck.
Reaching out to a licensed professional can be a very smart decision. First of all, we’ve helped a lot of people move forward in their life. Sometimes you just have old life strategies that just don’t work anymore, and you need to find news ones. We’re experts in that. When you come into your first session, we’re going to ask you your thoughts, your feelings, your opinions about your life, and we’re going to have a dialogue with you. We’re going to get to know you by having that conversation. It’s a very easy and relaxed way to do therapy, very interactive.
And once we get to know you, we’re going to develop trust with you as well and we’re going to be able to help you better. But what I often find is that when clients have this kind of deep conversation about themselves, they get to understand themselves in a way they never have before. And that deeper amount of clarity can be a great springboard in moving into a place where you can find the right kind of roadmap and move forward in your life in really healthy ways.
We’re solution-focused therapists so our job is to find the right solutions for you, using the tools and skills that we have. We’re going to help you develop those skills during our session, and support you as you start working on them in your own pace out in your life.
A good way to get to know us is to watch some of the videos or read some articles on our website. We probably have a life issue that you can relate to, and you might even get some information from those videos that can help you right now. You’re also going to get to know the kinds of advice we can give, it’s a great way to kind of get to know us as therapists.
But the best thing you can do is to pick up the phone, and reach out and give us a call. We have a helpful receptionist staff that could answer basic questions, and they can direct you to the therapist so you can talk to them on the phone. Tell them a little bit about what’s going on in your life, see if you have a good fit with a therapist on the phone, if you’re comfortable, there’s a good personality fit. And only then would you make an appointment. We’re here to help. We’re here to help you move forward.
Paying for therapy, if you have insurance, I recommend you give them a call and ask if they have something called out-of-network coverage. And if they do have out-of-network coverage, we can give you an invoice that might get you some money back. Also, some people have employee benefits, flex spending, things like that where you can use those monies to pay for therapy.
