Video Transcription Hello. My name is Sevin Philips. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I’m the founder of our center in Albuquerque. I want to give you some information to help you to make a decision. Not every therapist is the right fit, and so I’m going to tell you a little bit about our approach and see if it’s the kind of thing that you’re looking for. Also, especially if you’re new to therapy, I’m going to tell you some things about what to expect. How does this process work? I’m also going to give you some practical stuff that I think everyone should know when wondering how to pay for therapy. All human beings run into challenges. We all hit roadblocks and we don’t have the answers, or perhaps the strategies that we’ve been using just don’t work anymore. It’s a natural and normal thing to reach out and ask for help, and I think a lot of times in our culture, we’re taught that it is not a good thing, we’re weak for doing so. And it just isn’t true. Reaching out for help to a licensed professional could sometimes be the best thing you’ve ever done. We have helped a lot of people move forward in their life in healthy ways, so we have a lot of skills and experience to bring to the table. Different than family or friends, talking to one of us is a unique place because this is one place in your life where it gets to be just about you. This isn’t a dual relationship where you have to worry about our feelings; this is all about you and moving forward in your life. Much like a coach, we’re here to help you figure out the right kind of strategy to move forward in your life. And with your help, we’re going to deepen our understanding by asking questions. Your first session, you’re going to tell us your thoughts, your feelings, your opinions about your life, and it’s a very interactive process. We give a lot of feedback, and I think clients like that. You’re going to learn a lot about yourself, more than perhaps you ever have. And it can be very relieving just even having a deeper understanding of what’s been going on in your life, and of course, that’s the springboard we use to help you move forward. A great way to get to know us, though, is to go on our website. We have a bunch of videos and articles where you can probably find a life issue that you can relate to and maybe even get some help now. But you’re going to get to know the kinds of advice that we can give. The best thing you can do, though, is to reach out, pick up the phone and give us a call. One of our lovely receptionists can answer basic questions for you, and they can direct you to the therapist that you would be seeing. You can tell them a little bit about what’s going on in your life and see how it goes, see if it’s a comfortable conversation. We’re probably going to ask you a little bit about that, and we’re going to probably tell you the times that we’re available to see you. And if you feel comfortable with the person on the phone, then make an appointment. We’re here to help. Help paying for therapy is a whole different thing, and sometimes people have what’s called out-of-network coverage. You can call your insurance provider and see if they have out-of-network coverage. And if they do, we can give you an invoice. If you have something called flex spending, some sort of employee benefit, we sometimes help people use those monies to pay for therapy, and you can ask your employer about that. Most of all, we’re here to help. And if you want to take the next step in your life and you want to see if we’re the right fit for you, just pick up the phone and let us know. We’re here to help. Our Albuquerque therapist offers marriage counseling, couples therapy or couples counseling. Thank you so much.

Video Transcript
This video is going to be helpful, it’s going to help you decide if we are the right therapists for you, and it’s going to give you some great information that everyone should know about doing counseling. We specialize in relationship issues. We work with individuals and couples.

When couples come in, we help them create a safe environment where they can really talk and hopefully get clear about what’s going on between them. With this clarity, it makes it easier to move forward. In addition, we are experts at giving communication skills and tools to our clients that are necessary in order to be respectful, and to move forward and maintain a healthy relationship. We also are all old enough and have enough life experience to back up our skillset – and that’s important for you to know. We are licensed therapists. We have a very direct and interactive exchange that many consider to be down-to-earth. We have a solution-focused style to counseling. We help you create relationship goals. What’s important about this is you can track how you’re doing in counseling by tracking those goals. In addition, you know when it’s time to end because you’ve achieved those goals.

Sometimes people come in who are single who want to make good choices in life partners and perhaps have been making mistakes in the past. Sometimes people come in by themselves who are married or in long-term relationships, it’s a great way to get clear and know how to help yourself or create a healthy relationship. Of course, we specialize in marriage counseling and couples therapy.

The first step is to give me a call. I could answer any additional questions that you might have. If everything feels good, I’ll have the Albuquerque therapist call you immediately. They can let you know all the times they’re available to see you, both day and night. They’ll probably ask you a little bit about why you’re coming in. Most of all, it’s a great way to get to know them.
Some things you should know: if you have any out-of-network coverage with your insurance, you can verify that, and if so, we can give you an invoice that might get you some reimbursement. If you have any flex spending or health savings accounts through work, sometimes people use those monies to pay for their therapy.

If you haven’t noticed, I have a lot of videos on this website. I bet you’ll find there is some relationship issue that you can relate to and you can get some advice on that, and apply that right now in your relationship. Most importantly, you’ll get to know who we are through those videos, you’ll get a sense of us and a sense to what kind of advice that we give.

I hope this helps. Thank you.

Let Passion Erupt in Albuquerque

Albuquerque has an amazing cultural history that is just perfect for adventurous couples looking to “jazz up” their humdrum relationships or keep the “thrill” going in an already exciting relationships. And, truth-be-told, Albuquerque, with its 300-plus sunny days each year, provides a vivid taste of Southwest American culture. So, regardless of whether you and your partner want to spend time admiring the splendor of the city’s desert backdrop or participate in a cultural tradition like the International Balloon Fiesta, there will always be something to do and some way to reconnect with the love of your life. In fact, this city offers a wide variety of options for couples seeking a one-of-a-kind, unique experience. And, let’s face it – Albuquerque is not only captivating in general; it is also romantically captivating for those in love and those trying to recapture love.

The list of things to do to revive a dying relationship and improve an already strong one is endless, to say the least. And, although, the “usual” romantic activities are good, sometimes it is better to do something totally “different” to re-spark the feelings you used to have for your partner and vice versa. What are the “usual” activities? Well, you know like renting a cozy cabin for two, spending time at a fancy spa, or taking a nature hike through one of the city’s parks. Don’t get me wrong, those activities are good for spending quality time together, but how fun is it to do things that you have never done – or even thought to do – with your significant other? Think of the memories you can create together. Now, you see where I’m coming from, don’t you? I thought so. So, let’s start exploring what life, love, and your great city has to offer.

Listed below are some one-of-a-kind activities that you and your honey can do together:

Gruet Winery
Have you ever heard of Gruet Winery? No? Where have you been – under a rock? Just kidding, but if you are thinking of a way to relax with your partner without stress or tension, you may want to consider visiting this awesome winery. And, although you may not necessarily think of Albuquerque when planning your next wine-tasting escapade, you would be surprised to know that Gruet Winery offers an assortment of “tasting rooms” that would tickle even the most refined wine lovers. So, if you and your partner have been going through a rough “season” head on out to Gruet Winery for a day of relaxation and wine, of course. And guess what? This popular winery has some of the best chardonnay and pinot noir around! So, what’s not to love? Oh, and if possible, take a tour of one of the extraordinary vineyards (Gruet Vineyard, The Pueblo of Santa Ana, and/or Luna Rossa Vineyard), where you and your honey learn about everything you ever wanted to know about making wine. Don’t forget at the end of the tour to share a bottle of the winery’s cabernet sauvignon (2007) – the 2011 New Mexico State Fair winner.

International Balloon Fiesta
If you are tired of doing the same old things in your relationship, and need something to “liven” things up, you may want to consider going to Albuquerque’s annual International Balloon Fiesta. Why this event? Well, because it offers thrilling hot air balloon rides, and who doesn’t love that? Did you know that your city is the hot air balloon capital of the world? Well, now you do. You are welcome. So, with Albuquerque’s dreamy blue sky, tranquil winds, and warm weather, this event is the perfect choice for a “heavenly” trip in the sky. And, this trip is not only out-of-this-world, it is also extremely romantic, which might just be the remedy needed to mend your broken relationship or add romance to your dull one.

The International Balloon Fiesta typically occurs in October and consists of 600 hot air balloons, and the smell of roasting chilies, which is sure to provoke the most romantic/sentimental feelings. Both you and your honey will be swept in a sense of wonder, which may open the channels of forgiveness and communication. And, guess what? This event offers more than just hot air balloon rides, it also offers a variety of musical performances, activities, and demonstrations. It even offers a chainsaw carving competition. So, as you can see, this event is perfect for couples looking to have fun, while experiencing something new.

Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway
Has the passion left your relationship, causing you to desperately look around for ways to get it back? If so, do not feel embarrassed or ashamed. Truth-be-told, almost all couples through a “slump” from time-to-time. It is normal, but you can’t allow your relationship to stay in it or it will wither away. So, if your relationship is in this stage, it may be time to add a little more romance into it. And, who doesn’t like romance? No one. So, why not make a visit to Sandia Peak Tramway. Why here? Well, with its scenic views of the city and nearby valleys and mountains, it is sure to spark feelings of peace, harmony, romance, passion, and love.
And, in case you are unfamiliar with this tramway, it is a 2.7mile trip above rocky canyons to the 10,378ft Sandia Peak in the Cibola National Forest. And, don’t forget to take a lot of pictures – these are memories you will want to keep for a lifetime. Snap-a-way at the valley below, as the tram softly rocks above the city’s desert backdrop. And, once you reach the top of the peak, take time to enjoy the 11,000ft view of the Rio Grande Valley from the observation deck.

ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden
Lastly, if you are looking for peace, harmony, and resolutions, maybe you and your significant other should spend time at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden. This garden is a great place to reconnect with your loved one, and re-evaluate the meaning of life and the value of your relationship. It is also a good place to talk, not about anything to serious or confrontational, but talk about common interests, dreams, goals, fears, life… Visit ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden and let your love bloom once again. So, hold hands and stroll through one of the garden’s trails, while gazing at the magically vibrant flowers and plants. This romantic garden is sure to please your senses and open your heart.
